When Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he took her, lay with her by force.


Shechem spoke to his father, Hamor, saying, “Get me this young woman as a wife.”


Therefore, y’all must no be afraid. I will provide for y’all and your* little ones.” He comforted them and spoke kindly to them.


Now get up, go out, and speak to comfort your servants. For I swear by YHWH, if you don’t go out, not a man will stay with you this night. That would be worse to you than all the evil that has happened to you from your youth until now.”


Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who had good understanding in the service of YHWH. So they ate throughout the feast for the seven days, offering sacrifices of peace offerings and making confession to YHWH, the God of their fathers.


“Y’all are to speak kindly to Jerusalem and announce to her that her time of warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, and that she has received from YHWH’s hand double for all her sins.”


“Therefore, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.


It will be in that day,” says YHWH, “that you will call me ‘my husband,’ and no longer call me ‘my master.’


Her husband arose and went after her to speak kindly to her, to bring her again, having his servant with him and a couple of donkeys. She brought him into her father’s house; and when the father of the young woman saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.


Again, they wept aloud. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-law goodbye, but Ruth clung to her.


When he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
