On the third day, when they were sore, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword, came upon the unsuspecting city, and killed all the males.


Jacob’s sons came on the dead, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.


Then Abner called to Joab, and said, “Will the sword devour forever? Don’t you know that it will be bitterness in the latter end? How long will it be then, before you ask the people to return from following their brothers?”


“The Assyrian will fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword not of humankind will devour him. He will flee from the sword, and his young men will become subject to forced labor.


They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the ethnic groups until the times of the nations are fulfilled.


I will make my arrows drunk with blood. My sword will devour flesh with the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders.”
