Jacob sent messengers in front of him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.


He commanded them, saying, “This is what y’all are to tell my lord, Esau: ‘This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.


Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.


Now, the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned away from them, and didn’t destroy them.


Hᴇ tends ʜɪꜱ flock like a shepherd. Hᴇ gather the lambs in ʜɪꜱ arm, and carries them against ʜɪꜱ chest. Hᴇ gently leads those who are nursing.


“‘This is what Lord YHWH says: “Because Moab and Seir say, ‘Look, the house of Judah is like all the nations,’


With many parables like these he spoke the word to them, as much as they were able to hear it.


Now we who have an obligation to carry the weaknesses of those without strength, and not to please ourselves.


I fed y’all milk, not solid food, because you* weren’t yet ready. Indeed, y’all aren’t ready even now,


Then we turned and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as YHWH spoke to me, and we traveled around Mount Seir for many days.


“YHWH, when you went out of Seir, when you marched out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, the sky also poured. Yes, the clouds poured water.
