Now therefore let’s make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives and those who are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God. Let it be done according to the law.


They didn’t destroy the peoples, as YHWH commanded them,


“Whoever sacrifices to any god, except to YHWH alone, must be utterly destroyed.


Israel vowed a vow to YHWH, and said, “If you will deliver-deliver this people into my hand, then I will totally destroy their cities.”


So now therefore y’all must kill every male among the children, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him.


then y’all must drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before y’all. Y’all must destroy all their stone idols and all their molten images, and demolish all their high places.


you must not yield to him nor listen to him. Do not let your eye pity him, and do not spare or you conceal him.

They answered Joshua, and said, “Because your servants were told-told how YHWH your God commanded ʜɪꜱ slave Moses to give y’all all the land and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before y’all. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of y’all, and that is why we did this thing.


The men of Israel said to the Hivites, “Maybe you live near us? How could we make a covenant with you?”


The watchers saw a man come out of the city, and they said to him, “Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.”


Judah went up, and YHWH delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand. They struck ten thousand men in Bezek.


Y’all must not make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land. Y’all must break down their altars.’ But y’all have not listened to my voice. Why have y’all done this?
