12 When you have finished tithing all the tithe of your increase in the third year, which is the year of tithing, then you are to give it to the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, so that they may eat within your gates and be filled.

Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth. Only the land of the priests alone didn’t become Pharaoh’s.


He who despises his neighbor sins, but he who has pity on the poor is blessed.


“‘All the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is YHWH’s. It is holy to YHWH.

Indeed, the sons of Levi who become priests have a commandment according to the law to collect tithes from the people— that is, from their fellow Israelites—even though they too descended from the body of Abraham.
