All the guests of Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and each man went his way.


“Those who trust in graven images, who tell molten images, ‘Y’all are our gods,’ will be turned back. They will be utterly disappointed.


“I am YHWH. That is my name. I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to graven images.


But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.


Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.


but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. You have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which don’t see, or hear, or know; and you have not glorified the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways.


Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of God’s house which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drank from them.


In the same hour, the fingers of a human hand came out and wrote near the lamp stand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace. The king saw the part of the hand that wrote.


Therefore they will now go captive with the first who go captive. The feasting and lounging will end.


Woe to him who says to the wood, ‘Awake!’ or to the mute stone, ‘Arise!’ Can it teach? Look, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.


Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we shouldn’t think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by human skill and imagination.
