Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because they both swore an oath there.


Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of YHWH, the Everlasting God.


He went up from there to Beersheba.


He called it “Shibah”. Therefore the name of the city is “Beersheba” to this day.


So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. Then he said to them, “It is too much for y’all to go up to Jerusalem. Israel, here are your gods that brought you up from the land of Egypt!”


He set the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.


He brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.


Those who hate you will be clothed with shame. The tent of the wicked will be no more.”


YHWH brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. Hᴇ makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.


For the ruthless is brought to nothing, and the scoffer ceases, and all those who are alert to do evil are cut off—


Y’all will devise a plan, but it will be thwarted Y’all will speak a speech, but it will not rise, for God is with us.”


Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence.


The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will grow up over their altars. They will tell the mountains, “Y’all cover us!” and the hills, “Y’all fall on us!”


If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field.


“Although you, Israel, play the prostitute, do not let Judah become guilty. And both of y’all must not go to Gilgal, nor up to Beth Aven, And y’all must not swear, ‘As YHWH lives.’


“All their wickedness is in Gilgal; for there I hated them. Because of the wickedness of their deeds, I will drive them out of my house! I will love them no more. All their princes are rebels.


I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the valley of Aven, and him who holds the scepter from the house of Eden; and the people of Syria will go into captivity to Kir,” says YHWH.


“For in the day that I visit the transgressions of Israel on him, I will also visit the altars of Bethel; and the horns of the altar will be cut off, and fall to the ground.


“y’all must go to Bethel and rebel; In Gilgal, y’all are to rebel more. Bring y’all’s sacrifices every morning, y’all’s tithes every three days,


Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the middle of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.


but don’t prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house!”


Therefore YHWH says: ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword, and your land will be divided by line. You yourself will die in a land that is unclean, and Israel will be taken-taken into exile away from its land.’”


The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”


Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, ‘As your god, Dan, lives,’ and, ‘As the way of Beersheba lives,’ they will fall, and never rise up again.”


God chose the lowly things of the world, the despised things, the things that don’t exist, in order to nullify what does exist,


We speak wisdom, however, among those who are mature, a wisdom not of this world nor of the rulers of this world who are coming to nothing.


You will father sons and daughters, but they will not be yours, for they will go into captivity.


YHWH said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from y’all.” Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal to this day.


For in a single hour such vast riches have been laid waste.’ Every shipmaster, and everyone who sails somewhere, and sailor, and as many as earn their living by sea, stood far away


Then Samuel said to the people, “Come y’all! Let’s go to Gilgal and renew the kingdom there.”


He went from year to year in a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.


Now the name of his firstborn was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah. They were judges in Beersheba.
