They took the bull which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, “Baal, hear us!” But there was no voice, and nobody answered. They leaped about the altar which was made.


In praying, y’all are not to use vain repetitions as the ethnic groups do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.


They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are disturbing our city. They are Jews


A silversmith named Demetrius, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought a great deal of business to the artisans,


And y’all see and hear that this Paul has convinced and turned many people, not just here in Ephesus, but almost all throughout Asia. He says that gods that made with human hands are not gods.


When they heard this they were filled with rage and began shouting, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”


Some of the crowd thought this was about Alexander when the Jews pushed him forward. Motioning with his hand, Alexander wanted to make a defense before the public gathering.


The town clerk quieted the crowd and then said, “Men of Ephesus, what human is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple guardian of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell from heaven?


You who say a person shouldn’t commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?


They worshiped the dragon because it gave authority to the beast. And they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to wage war against it?”
