So when Pilate saw that nothing was being gained, but that instead a disturbance was starting, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this righteous person. Y’all take care of it.”


saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? You take care of that yourself.”


So Pilate said to them, “Y’all take him yourself*, and judge him according to y’all’s law.” Then the Jews said to him, “It is illegal for us to put anyone to death.”


saying, “This man is persuading people to worship God in ways contrary to the law.”


I found that the accusation had to do with questions concerning their law, but there was no charge that deserved death or imprisonment.


If, however, I have done wrong and have committed anything deserving of death, I do not refuse to die. But if none of the things they accuse me of is true, no one should be able to give me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!”


Instead they had certain disagreements against him about their own religion and about a dead man named Jesus whom Paul claimed to be alive.


especially because you are an expert in all the Jewish customs and debates. Therefore I beg you to hear me patiently.


and not to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than God’s economy, which is in faith.


they are conceited and know nothing. They are obsessed with arguments, disputes, and word combat, from which come envy, infighting, blasphemy, evil suspicions,


But reject foolish and uninformed speculations, knowing that they generate quarrels.


But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, infighting, and disputes about the Law, because they are unprofitable and useless.
