When the centurion and those who were with him watching Jesus saw the earthquake and the things that were done, they were terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”


All were speaking well about him and marveling at the gracious words that came from his mouth. Yet they said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”


Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has come to help his people!”


The officers answered, “No one ever spoke like this man!”


When the ethnic groups heard this, they began to rejoice and praise the word of the Lord, and all who were appointed to eternal life believed.


The word of the Lord was spread throughout the entire region.


who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.


But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is his name translated) opposed them, trying to turn the proconsul away from the faith.


However, Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, along with many others.


Some time later, Paul said to Barnabas, “Let’s return and visit the siblings in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord, to see how they are doing.”


When Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews united with one mind to attack Paul and brought him before the place of judgment,


This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia, both Jews and Greeks, heard the word of the Lord.


In this way the word of the Lord was spreading and growing strong.


So then, if Demetrius and his fellow artisans have a complaint against someone, the courts are open and proconsuls are there. Let them press charges against one another.


They were about twelve men in all.


Now in the area around that place was an estate that belonged to the chief official of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and treated us hospitably for three days.


Yet they weren’t able to stand up against the wisdom and the Spirit by whom he spoke.


So when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.
