The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “It is because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time that we are being brought in. He wants to seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”


He said, “Peace be to y’all. Don’t y’all be afraid. Y’all’s God, and the God of y’all’s father, has given y’all treasure in y’all’s sacks. I received y’all’s money.” Then he brought Simeon out to them.


I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.


For all my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet you set your servant among those who ate at your own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should appeal any more to the king?”


The king said to him, “Why do you keep speaking about your affairs? I say, you and Ziba, y’all divide the land.”


The king said to Barzillai, “Come over with me, and I will sustain you with me in Jerusalem.”


But the king spared Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of YHWH’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.


David said, “Is there yet any who is left of Saul’s house, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”


Till the land for him—you, your sons, and your servants. Bring in the harvest, that your master’s son may have bread to eat; but Mephibosheth your master’s son will always eat bread at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.


Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so your servant will do.” So Mephibosheth ate at the king’s table like one of the king’s sons.


So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table. He was lame in both his feet.


The king said, “Is there not yet any of Saul’s house, that I may show the kindness of God to him?” Ziba said to the king, “Jonathan still has a son, who is lame in his feet.”


But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table. They came to me when I fled from Absalom your brother.

Look! I am standing at the door and knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will come in and dine with them, and they with me.


Only y’all must fear YHWH and serve ʜɪᴍ in truth with all y’all’s heart. Consider the great things ʜᴇ has done for y’all.


but you must not cut off your kindness from my house forever, not even when YHWH has cut off every one of the enemies of David from the surface of the earth.”


Stay with me. Don’t be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. You will be safe with me.”
