A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by the word of YHWH, “Please strike me!” The man refused to strike him.


When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho facing him saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.


They said to him, “See now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. Perhaps the Spirit of YHWH has taken him up, and put him on some mountain or into some valley.” He said, “Y’all are not to send them.”


When they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, “Y’all send them.” So they sent fifty men, and they searched for three days, but didn’t find him.


Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead. You know that your servant feared YHWH. Now the creditor has come to take for himself my two children to be slaves.”


He said, “All is well. My master has sent me to say, ‘Look, just now two young men from the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.’”


The sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “Look, the place where we live and meet with you is too small for us.


Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, “Put your belt on your waist, take this vial of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth Gilead.


Then Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son, but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs;


“After that you will come to the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is; and it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a lute, a tambourine, a pipe, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying.
