They brought out the pillars that were in the house of Baal and burned them.


All the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and broke it down. They broke his altars and his images in pieces thoroughly, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. The priest appointed officers over the house of YHWH.

For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he raised up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel did, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them.

Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have put away the Asheroth out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God.”


Now when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of Judah and broke the pillars in pieces, cut down the Asherah poles, and broke down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, also in Ephraim and Manasseh, until they had destroyed them all. Then all the children of Israel returned, every man to his possession, into their own cities.


For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he raised up altars for the Baals, made Asheroth, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them.


For they provoked ʜɪᴍ to anger with their high places, and moved ʜɪᴍ to jealousy with their engraved images.


You must not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor follow their practices, but you must overthrow-overthrow them and demolish-demolish their pillars.

I will destroy y’all’s high places, cut down y’all’s incense altars, and cast y’all’s dead bodies upon the bodies of y’all’s idols. My soul will abhor y’all.


(I stood between YHWH and y’all at that time, to show y’all the word of YHWH, because y’all were afraid of the fire, and didn’t go up onto the mountain). He said,


Instead this is what y’all are to do with them: y’all must break down their altars, dash their pillars into pieces, cut down their Asherah poles, and y’all must burn their idols with fire.


That same night, YHWH said to him, “Take your father’s bull and the second bull that is seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is by it.


When the men of the city arose early in the morning, he saw that the altar of Baal had been demolished, and the Asherah beside it was cut down, and the second bull was offered on the altar that was built.
