For they provoked ʜɪᴍ to anger with their high places, and moved ʜɪᴍ to jealousy with their engraved images.


Woe to those who deeply hide their counsel from YHWH, and whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, “Who sees us?” and “Who knows us?”


For when I had brought them into the land which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill and every thick tree, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering. There they also made their pleasant aroma, and there they poured out their drink offerings.


Then he said to me, “Son of humanity, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in his rooms of imagery? For they say, ‘YHWH doesn’t see us. YHWH has forsaken the land.’”


If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field.


If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, entices you secretly, saying, “Let’s go and serve other gods”—which you have not known, you, nor your ancestors;


‘Cursed is the person who makes an engraved or molten image, an abomination to YHWH, the work of the hands of the artisan, and sets it up in secret.’ All the people will answer and say, ‘Amen.’


Then men will say, “Because they abandoned the covenant of YHWH, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
