Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.


This will be the sign to you that will come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they will both die.


YHWH said to Samuel, “Look! I am about do a thing in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears it tingle.


In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end.


The man said to Eli, “I am he who came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army.” He said, “How did the matter go, my son?”


When he made mention of the ark of God, Eli fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate; and his neck broke, and he died, for he was an old man and heavy. He had judged Israel forty years.
