8 David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those were the inhabitants of the land who were of old, on the way to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.

So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.


Absalom answered Joab, “Look, I sent to you, saying, ‘Come here, that I may send you to the king, to say, “Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still. Now therefore, let me see the king’s face; and if there is iniquity in me, let him kill me.”’”


For your servant vowed a vow while I stayed at Geshur in Syria, saying, ‘If YHWH will bring-bring me again to Jerusalem, then I will serve YHWH.’”


Just then, David’s servants and Joab came from a raid and brought in a great plunder with them. But Abner was not with David in Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he had gone in peace.

Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.


Amalek dwells in the land of the South. The Hittite, the Jebusite, and the Amorite dwell in the hill country. The Canaanite dwells by the sea, and along the side of the Jordan.”


Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites who lived in that mountain, and struck them and beat them down even to Hormah.


and ruled in Mount Hermon, and in Salecah, and in all Bashan, to the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.


Nevertheless the children of Israel didn’t drive out the Geshurites, nor the Maacathites: but Geshur and Maacath live within Israel to this day.


“This is the land that still remains: all the regions of the Philistines, and all the Geshurites;


They didn’t drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell in the territory of Ephraim to this day, and have become servants to do forced labor.


Ephraim didn’t drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.


Then Achish called David and said to him, “As YHWH lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords don’t favor you.


When David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the South and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire,
