But the people said, “You must not go out, because if we flee-flee, they will not care for us, neither if half of us die, will they care for us. But you are worth ten thousand of us. Therefore now it is better that you are ready to help us out of the city.”


Now these are the last words of David. David the son of Jesse says, the man who was raised on high says, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the sweet psalmist of Israel:


David and all the house of Israel played before YHWH with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with castanets, and with cymbals.


Miriam answered them, “Sing to YHWH y’all, for ʜᴇ is exalted-exalted. Hᴇ has thrown the horse and his rider into the sea.”


The servants of Achish said to him, “Isn’t this David the king of the land? Didn’t they sing to one another about him in dances, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?’”


David laid up these words in his heart, and was very afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
