Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it on his head, then kissed him and said, “Hasn’t YHWH anointed you to be prince over his inheritance?


They said, “You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything from anyone’s hand.”


He said to them, “YHWH is witness against y’all, and ʜɪꜱ anointed is witness today, that y’all have not found anything in my hand.” They said, “Hᴇ is witness.”


I will raise up a faithful priest for myself who will do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house. He will walk before my anointed forever.


See, my father! Look at the edge of your robe in my hand! I cut off the edge of your robe but didn’t kill you. So realize and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand. I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it.


He said to his men, “YHWH forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, YHWH’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is YHWH’s anointed.”


So David checked his men with these words, and didn’t allow them to rise against Saul. Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.


YHWH forbid that I should stretch out my hand against YHWH’s anointed; but now please take the spear that is at his head and the jar of water, and let’s go.”


David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him, for who can stretch out his hand against YHWH’s anointed, and be guiltless?”
