They said, “We saw-saw that YHWH was with you. We said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let’s make a covenant with you,


After this, the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.


David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.


When David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,


David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “May YHWH bless y’all because y’all have shown this kindness to Saul your* lord by burying him.


Ben Hadad said to him, “The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You are to make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.” “I”, said Ahab, “will let you go with this covenant.” So he made a covenant with him and let him go.


When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,


all the valiant men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.


Will it make a covenant with you, that you should take it for a servant forever?


You must no make any covenant with them or with their gods.


Y’all shouldn’t listen to Hezekiah, for the king of Assyria says, ‘Y’all must make your peace with me, and come out to me. Each of y’all will eat from their own vine, and their own fig tree, and drink the waters of their own cistern;


Likewise when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,


and said to him, “Are you aware-aware that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life?” But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam didn’t believe them.


He took one of the royal offspring, and made a covenant with him. He also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land,


An Ammonite or a Moabite may not enter into assembly of YHWH, even to the tenth generation no one belonging to them may ever enter into assembly of YHWH,


YHWH’s anger burned against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the children of Ammon.


After a while, the children of Ammon made war against Israel.


They said, “What one is there of the tribes of Israel who didn’t come up to YHWH to Mizpah?” But no one came from Jabesh Gilead to the camp to the assembly.


“When y’all saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you*, y’all said to me, ‘No, a king must reign over us,’ when YHWH your* God was y’all’s king.


Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side: against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned himself, he defeated them.
