The king called the Gibeonites and said to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites. The children of Israel had sworn to them, but Saul sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah).


The king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, “Didn’t I make you swear by YHWH and warn you, saying, ‘Know-know that the day you go out and walk anywhere else, you will die-die?’ You said to me, ‘The saying that I have heard is good.’


The king said moreover to Shimei, “You know in your heart all the wickedness that you did to David my father. Therefore YHWH will return your wickedness on your own head.


Also the hand of God came on Judah to give them one heart, to do the commandment of the king and of the princes by the word of YHWH.


I say, “Keep the king’s command!” because of the oath to God.


Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also because of conscience.
