¶ Lo I send you forth, as sheep among wolves. Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and innocent as doves.


Who is a faithful servant and wise, whom his master hath made ruler over his household, for to give them meat in season convenient?


The foolish took their lamps, but took none oil with them.


But the wise took oil with them in their vessels with their lamps also.


But the wise answered, saying: not so, lest there be not enough for us and you, but go rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.


They went out from us but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us. But that fortuned that it might appear, that they were not of us.


¶ My mind is therefore to put you in remembrance, for as much as ye once know this, how that the Lord (after that he had delivered the people out of Egypt) destroyed them which afterward believed not:
