Then Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father, so the physicians embalmed Israel.


He was buried in his own tomb, which he had hewn out for himself in the city of David. They laid him in his resting place, which was filled with sweet spices and various blended perfumes and they made a very large fire for him.


You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore, God, your God, anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions.


I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.


My lover is my pouch of myrrh, passing the night between my breasts.


—nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon— with all the trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, along with all the finest spices—


Until the day cools and the shadows flee away, I will go to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense.
