The scepter will not pass from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs will come. To him will be the obedience of the peoples.


Then the king asked her, “What’s the matter with you?” She answered, “This woman said to me: ‘Give your son that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.’


So we cooked my son and ate him. The next day I told her: ‘Give your son that we may eat him’—but she hid her son.”


“Can a woman forget her nursing baby or lack compassion for a child of her womb? Even if these forget, I will not forget you.


The hands of compassionate women boiled their own children. They became their food when the daughter of my people were destroyed.


“You will eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your sons and daughters Adonai your God has given you, in the siege and stress with which your enemies will distress you.
