When they informed David saying, “Uriah did not go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Haven’t you come from a journey? Why didn’t you go down to your house?”


David called him, and he ate and drank before him, and he made him drunk. But in the evening he went out to lie on his bed with his master’s servants, but did not go down to his house.


So King Rehoboam made in their place bronze shields and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, watching over the doorway of the royal palace.


Whenever the king went to the House of Adonai, the guard would carry them and bring them back into the guardroom.


There is no wisdom, there is no understanding, there is no counsel— against Adonai.
