As he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.


When Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.


Once again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying,


“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its branches become tender and put out leaves, you know that summer is near.


Then Jesus began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a pit for the winepress, built a tower, leased it to farmers, and left the country.


Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders were looking for a way to arrest Jesus because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd, so they left him and went away.


So Jesus called them over and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan?


Then he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the other parables?


With many similar parables he spoke the word to them, to the extent that they were able to understand it.


Then Peter said to him, “Lord, are yoʋ telling this parable only for us, or for everyone else as well?”


He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest I speak in parables, so that ‘they may see but not perceive, and hear but not understand.’


“I have told you these things in figures of speech, but an hour is coming when I will no longer use figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father.
