Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.


Then someone said to him, “Behold, yoʋr mother and yoʋr brothers are standing outside, asking to speak to yoʋ.”


Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother's name Mary, and are not his brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas?


As they came into the house and saw the child with Mary his mother, they fell down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.


saying, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the life of the child are dead.”


“No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the garment's new patch pulls away from the old cloth, and a worse tear is made.


Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? Are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.


How has this happened to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?


Joseph and the child's mother were amazed at what was being said about him.


Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, the child's mother, “Behold, this child is appointed to bring about the falling and rising of many in Israel and to be a sign that will be spoken against,


When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Child, why have yoʋ treated us like this? Behold, yoʋr father and I have been looking for yoʋ in great distress.”


Then he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.


He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest I speak in parables, so that ‘they may see but not perceive, and hear but not understand.’


Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.


On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and Jesus' mother was there.


After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days.


But his mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”


However, after his brothers had gone up to the feast, Jesus also went up, not openly but in secret.


So Jesus' brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea so that yoʋr disciples may see the works yoʋ are doing.


(For not even his brothers believed in him.)


With one accord they were all devoting themselves to prayer and supplication, along with Jesus' brothers and several women, including Mary the mother of Jesus.


Do we not have a right to take along a wife who is a sister in Christ, as do the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?


But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the brother of the Lord.
