“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive a more severe judgment.


“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, yet you have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. These you ought to have done without neglecting the others.


“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside they are full of the bones of the dead and all uncleanness.


I fast twice a week, and I give tithes of all that I get.’


But I know that you do not have the love of God within you.


If anyone says, “I love God,” and yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
