Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten Edom; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?


But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.


Pride goeth before destruction, And an haughty spirit before a fall.


Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, And before honour goeth humility.


Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?


And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.


But he giveth more grace. Wherefore the scripture saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.
