He leads priests away stripped, and overthrows the mighty.


For he has crushed and abandoned the poor, he has seized a house which he did not build.


From out of the city the dying groan, and the soul of the wounded cries for help; yet God pays no attention to their prayer.


so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him, and he heard the cry of the afflicted—


Your wickedness concerns a man like yourself, and your righteousness a son of man.


Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?


Break thou the arm of the wicked and evildoer; seek out his wickedness till thou find none.


“Because the poor are despoiled, because the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the Lord; “I will place him in the safety for which he longs.”


For thou art the God in whom I take refuge; why hast thou cast me off? Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?


In the course of those many days the king of Egypt died. And the people of Israel groaned under their bondage, and cried out for help, and their cry under bondage came up to God.


If you do afflict them, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry;


Then the Lord said, “I have seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters; I know their sufferings,


And now, behold, the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.


Again I saw all the oppressions that are practiced under the sun. And behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they had no one to comfort them! On the side of their oppressors there was power, and there was no one to comfort them.


They do not cry to me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds; for grain and wine they gash themselves, they rebel against me.


you shall give him his hire on the day he earns it, before the sun goes down (for he is poor, and sets his heart upon it); lest he cry against you to the Lord, and it be sin in you.
