26 ‘The Lord has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to have charge in the house of the Lord over every madman who prophesies, to put him in the stocks and collar.

Then Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains who were set over the army, “Bring her out between the ranks; and slay with the sword any one who follows her.” For the priest said, “Let her not be slain in the house of the Lord.”


Then all the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and tore it down; his altars and his images they broke in pieces, and they slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest posted watchmen over the house of the Lord.


When Jehu came out to the servants of his master, they said to him, “Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?” And he said to them, “You know the fellow and his talk.”


Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the stocks, in prison, for he was in a rage with him because of this. And Asa inflicted cruelties upon some of the people at the same time.


and say, ‘Thus says the king, Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with scant fare of bread and water, until I return in peace.’ ”


Now why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth who is prophesying to you?


And Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.


So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king's son, which was in the court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down by ropes. And there was no water in the cistern, but only mire, and Jeremiah sank in the mire.


The days of punishment have come, the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it. The prophet is a fool, the man of the spirit is mad, because of your great iniquity and great hatred.


“On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.


And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”


And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for people were saying, “He is beside himself.”


Many of them said, “He has a demon, and he is mad; why listen to him?”


The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we stone you but for blasphemy; because you, being a man, make yourself God.”


Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you claim to be?”


Having received this charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.


And I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme; and in raging fury against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.


And as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are mad; your great learning is turning you mad.”


But Paul said, “I am not mad, most excellent Festus, but I am speaking the sober truth.


And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,


they arrested the apostles and put them in the common prison.


Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were much perplexed about them, wondering what this would come to.


but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped his hands.


Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
