Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.


and he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: The Lord is with you, while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.


but walked in the ways of the kings of Israel. He even made molten images for the Baals;


Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath will be poured out upon this place and will not be quenched.


“But if you turn aside and forsake my statutes and my commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them,


Their land is filled with idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers have made.


and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they were destroyed.


Then it becomes fuel for a man; he takes a part of it and warms himself, he kindles a fire and bakes bread; also he makes a god and worships it, he makes it a graven image and falls down before it.


a people who provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens and burning incense upon bricks;


They are worthless, a work of delusion; at the time of their punishment they shall perish.


for the customs of the peoples are false. A tree from the forest is cut down, and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman.


Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem will go and cry to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they cannot save them in the time of their trouble.


The Lord of hosts, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil which the house of Israel and the house of Judah have done, provoking me to anger by burning incense to Baal.”


You have rejected me, says the Lord, you keep going backward; so I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you;— I am weary of relenting.


then you shall say to them: ‘Because your fathers have forsaken me, says the Lord, and have gone after other gods and have served and worshiped them, and have forsaken me and have not kept my law,


O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who forsake thee shall be put to shame; those who turn away from thee shall be written in the earth, for they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living water.


But my people have forgotten me, they burn incense to false gods; they have stumbled in their ways, in the ancient roads, and have gone into bypaths, not the highway,


Because the people have forsaken me, and have profaned this place by burning incense in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have filled this place with the blood of innocents,


for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.


Have you not brought this upon yourself by forsaking the Lord your God, when he led you in the way?


Your wickedness will chasten you, and your apostasy will reprove you. Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, says the Lord God of hosts.


But where are your gods that you made for yourself? Let them arise, if they can save you, in your time of trouble; for as many as your cities are your gods, O Judah.


a wind too full for this comes for me. Now it is I who speak in judgment upon them.”


For this the earth shall mourn, and the heavens above be black; for I have spoken, I have purposed; I have not relented nor will I turn back.”


But we will do everything that we have vowed, burn incense to the queen of heaven and pour out libations to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no evil.


Shall I not punish them for these things? says the Lord, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?”

Every man is stupid and without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols; for his images are false, and there is no breath in them.


Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?


The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.


Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known,


and you took your embroidered garments to cover them, and set my oil and my incense before them.


I the Lord have spoken; it shall come to pass, I will do it; I will not go back, I will not spare, I will not repent; according to your ways and your doings I will judge you, says the Lord God.”


The more I called them, the more they went from me; they kept sacrificing to the Baals, and burning incense to idols.


in Israel? A workman made it; it is not God. The calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.


The Lord utters his voice before his army, for his host is exceedingly great; he that executes his word is powerful. For the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; who can endure it?


And they made a calf in those days, and offered a sacrifice to the idol and rejoiced in the works of their hands.


“The Lord will send upon you curses, confusion, and frustration, in all that you undertake to do, until you are destroyed and perish quickly, on account of the evil of your doings, because you have forsaken me.


And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, you are about to sleep with your fathers; then this people will rise and play the harlot after the strange gods of the land, where they go to be among them, and they will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them.


If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm, and consume you, after having done you good.”


The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot either see or hear or walk;
