Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to the Rabshakeh, “Pray, speak to your servants in the Aramaic language, for we understand it; do not speak to us in the language of Judah within the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”


Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.


I said, “I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue; I will bridle my mouth, so long as the wicked are in my presence.”


Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself.


Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time; for it is an evil time.


“Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under foot and turn to attack you.
