These twenty years I have been in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times.


Ask of me ever so much as marriage present and gift, and I will give according as you say to me; only give me the maiden to be my wife.”


If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equivalent to the marriage present for virgins.


For ten acres of vineyard shall yield but one bath, and a homer of seed shall yield but an ephah.”


The ephah and the bath shall be of the same measure, the bath containing one tenth of a homer, and the ephah one tenth of a homer; the homer shall be the standard measure.


And I said to her, “You must dwell as mine for many days; you shall not play the harlot, or belong to another man; so will I also be to you.”


“If a man dedicates to the Lord part of the land which is his by inheritance, then your valuation shall be according to the seed for it; a sowing of a homer of barley shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver.


Also Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have bought to be my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from the gate of his native place; you are witnesses this day.”


Then Saul said, “Thus shall you say to David, ‘The king desires no marriage present except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, that he may be avenged of the king's enemies.’ ” Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
