whenever a case comes to you from your brethren who live in their cities, concerning bloodshed, law or commandment, statutes or ordinances, then you shall instruct them, that they may not incur guilt before the Lord and wrath may not come upon you and your brethren. Thus you shall do, and you will not incur guilt.


The watchmen found me, as they went about in the city. “Have you seen him whom my soul loves?”

For thus the Lord said to me: “Go, set a watchman, let him announce what he sees.

Hark, your watchmen lift up their voice, together they sing for joy; for eye to eye they see the return of the Lord to Zion.

“Cry aloud, spare not, lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to my people their transgression, to the house of Jacob their sins.


Upon your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest,


But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you shall go, and whatever I command you shall speak.


For there shall be a day when watchmen will call in the hill country of Ephraim: ‘Arise, and let us go up to Zion, to the Lord our God.’ ”


To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ears are closed, they cannot listen; behold, the word of the Lord is to them an object of scorn, they take no pleasure in it.


I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Give heed to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ‘We will not give heed.’


And I told the exiles all the things that the Lord had showed me.


Therefore prophesy against them, prophesy, O son of man.”


And you shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or refuse to hear; for they are a rebellious house.


I will take my stand to watch, and station myself on the tower, and look forth to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.


Then Haggai, the messenger of the Lord, spoke to the people with the Lord's message, “I am with you, says the Lord.”


But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?


And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, then healers, helpers, administrators, speakers in various kinds of tongues.


I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children.


Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men; but what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.


So we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.


Him we proclaim, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man mature in Christ.


And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.


Obey your leaders and submit to them; for they are keeping watch over your souls, as men who will have to give account. Let them do this joyfully, and not sadly, for that would be of no advantage to you.
