After these things God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.”


But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here am I.”


Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place; and I did not know it.”


And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here am I.”


Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God;


And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel:


And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and lo, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed.


Moses said to the Lord, “See, thou sayest to me, ‘Bring up this people’; but thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’


“that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”


The Lord called Moses, and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying,


And there came a voice to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”


About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius.”


And he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”


with the best gifts of the earth and its fulness, and the favor of him that dwelt in the bush. Let these come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the crown of the head of him that is prince among his brothers.


And the Lord came and stood forth, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for thy servant hears.”


Then the Lord called, “Samuel! Samuel!” and he said, “Here I am!”


And the Lord called again, “Samuel!” and Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.”


And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy.
