The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.


And when the Lord smelled the pleasing odor, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I ever again destroy every living creature as I have done.


how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks iniquity like water!


They lie down alike in the dust, and the worms cover them.


It is all one; therefore I say, he destroys both the blameless and the wicked.


Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.


But God will shoot his arrow at them; they will be wounded suddenly.


The wicked is overthrown through his evil-doing, but the righteous finds refuge through his integrity.


And I applied my mind to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is but a striving after wind.


and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.


The wise man has his eyes in his head, but the fool walks in darkness; and yet I perceived that one fate comes to all of them.


It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting; for this is the end of all men, and the living will lay it to heart.


I turned my mind to know and to search out and to seek wisdom and the sum of things, and to know the wickedness of folly and the foolishness which is madness.


Because sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the sons of men is fully set to do evil.


Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to the men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.


since one fate comes to all, to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil, to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As is the good man, so is the sinner; and he who swears is as he who shuns an oath.


But he who is joined with all the living has hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.


and because you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, every one of you follows his stubborn evil will, refusing to listen to me;


“I the Lord search the mind and try the heart, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”


The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately corrupt; who can understand it?


But when he came to himself he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger!


But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.


Immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give God the glory; and he was eaten by worms and died.


And I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme; and in raging fury against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.


And as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are mad; your great learning is turning you mad.”


For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by men and hating one another;


but was rebuked for his own transgression; a dumb ass spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet's madness.
