He who troubles his household will inherit wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise.


What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun?


Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had spent in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.


What gain has the worker from his toil?


There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches were kept by their owner to his hurt,


we were with child, we writhed, we have as it were brought forth wind. We have wrought no deliverance in the earth, and the inhabitants of the world have not fallen.


The priests did not say, ‘Where is the Lord?’ Those who handle the law did not know me; the rulers transgressed against me; the prophets prophesied by Baal, and went after things that do not profit.


For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. The standing grain has no heads, it shall yield no meal; if it were to yield, aliens would devour it.


For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?


Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal.”


I urge you to be subject to such men and to every fellow worker and laborer.


and do not turn aside after vain things which cannot profit or save, for they are vain.
