And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, “This man shall not be your heir; your own son shall be your heir.”


Great triumphs he gives to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David, and his descendants for ever.”


Otherwise it will come to pass, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be counted offenders.”


And the king also said, ‘Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who has granted one of my offspring to sit on my throne this day, my own eyes seeing it.’ ”


When David's time to die drew near, he charged Solomon his son, saying,


Then David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.


that the Lord may establish his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you a man on the throne of Israel.’


And so I purpose to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord said to David my father, ‘Your son, whom I will set upon your throne in your place, shall build the house for my name.’


And he said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying,


nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’


Now the Lord has fulfilled his promise which he made; for I have risen in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and I have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.


then I will establish your royal throne over Israel for ever, as I promised David your father, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man upon the throne of Israel.’


Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah, for the sake of David his servant, since he promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons for ever.


When your days are fulfilled to go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.


O Lord God, let thy promise to David my father be now fulfilled, for thou hast made me king over a people as many as the dust of the earth.


Ought you not to know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingship over Israel for ever to David and his sons by a covenant of salt?


Yet the Lord would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant which he had made with David, and since he had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons for ever.


And all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And Jehoiada said to them, “Behold, the king's son! Let him reign, as the Lord spoke concerning the sons of David.


who hast kept with thy servant David my father what thou didst declare to him; yea, thou didst speak with thy mouth, and with thy hand hast fulfilled it this day.


nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’


I will establish his line for ever and his throne as the days of the heavens.


In that day the root of Jesse shall stand as an ensign to the peoples; him shall the nations seek, and his dwellings shall be glorious.


Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David, and over his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and for evermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.


“For thus says the Lord: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,


And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.


The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.


He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,


And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.


For David, after he had served the counsel of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption;


Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne,


Lo! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,


And the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, you are about to sleep with your fathers; then this people will rise and play the harlot after the strange gods of the land, where they go to be among them, and they will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them.


For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
