But he urged them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house; and he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.


Barzillai was a very aged man, eighty years old; and he had provided the king with food while he stayed at Mahanaim; for he was a very wealthy man.


So they sought for a beautiful maiden throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.


When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers.


He had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and very many servants; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.


It is not the old that are wise, nor the aged that understand what is right.

And when she was baptized, with her household, she besought us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us.

And the old man said, “Peace be to you; I will care for all your wants; only, do not spend the night in the square.”


The Philistines assembled, and came and encamped at Shunem; and Saul gathered all Israel, and they encamped at Gilboa.
