And I contended with them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair; and I made them take oath in the name of God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.


therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”


My zeal consumes me, because my foes forget thy words.


my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.


He fulfils the desire of all who fear him, he also hears their cry, and saves them.


Serve the Lord with fear, with trembling


But I, when they were sick— I wore sackcloth, I afflicted myself with fasting. I prayed with head bowed on my bosom,


Lord, all my longing is known to thee, my sighing is not hidden from thee.


As a hart longs for flowing streams, so longs my soul for thee, O God.


For zeal for thy house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult thee have fallen on me.


A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool throws off restraint and is careless.


Blessed is the man who fears the Lord always; but he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.


Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death, jealousy is cruel as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, a most vehement flame.


In the path of thy judgments, O Lord, we wait for thee; thy memorial name is the desire of our soul.


All these things my hand has made, and so all these things are mine, says the Lord. But this is the man to whom I will look, he that is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.


Then the king, when he heard these words, was much distressed, and set his mind to deliver Daniel; and he labored till the sun went down to rescue him.


And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.


His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for thy house will consume me.”


Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols.


That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast only through faith. So do not become proud, but stand in awe.


he who thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men.


But if our wickedness serves to show the justice of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.)


that there may be no discord in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.


God judges those outside. “Drive out the wicked person from among you.”


And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.


But we pray God that you may not do wrong—not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed.


For such a one this punishment by the majority is enough;


but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities,


Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God.


and not only by his coming but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, as he told us of your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced still more.


As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting; for you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us.


for I know your readiness, of which I boast about you to the people of Macedonia, saying that Achaia has been ready since last year; and your zeal has stirred up most of them.


Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,


Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.


Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;


that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we solemnly forewarned you.


As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.


Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.


The saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men.


Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear lest any of you be judged to have failed to reach it.


But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or insincerity.


And if you invoke as Father him who judges each one impartially according to his deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile.


Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation;


save some, by snatching them out of the fire; on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.


Those whom I love, I reprove and chasten; so be zealous and repent.
