2 Chronicles 10:16 - Revised Standard Version

16 And when all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them, the people answered the king, “What portion have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Each of you to your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David.” So all Israel departed to their tents.

And David said to Abishai and to all his servants, “Behold, my own son seeks my life; how much more now may this Benjaminite! Let him alone, and let him curse; for the Lord has bidden him.


Now there happened to be there a worthless fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite; and he blew the trumpet, and said, “We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; every man to his tents, O Israel!”


However I will not tear away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen.”


but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom for ever and his throne shall be established for ever.’ ”


But Rehoboam reigned over the people of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah.


So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.


There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.


Surely the wrath of men shall praise thee; the residue of wrath thou wilt gird upon thee.


There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.


“In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old;


But his citizens hated him and sent an embassy after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’


But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.’ ”


After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him.


They went each to his own house,


Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne,


For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.


“I Jesus have sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star.”


and they did not show kindness to the family of Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) in return for all the good that he had done to Israel.


But on the second day, the morrow after the new moon, David's place was empty. And Saul said to Jonathan his son, “Why has not the son of Jesse come to the meal, either yesterday or today?”


And Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, so that he has risen against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?”


And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, “Hear now, you Benjaminites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds,


Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, “I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub,
