Then she said, “Pray let the king invoke the Lord your God, that the avenger of blood slay no more, and my son be not destroyed.” He said, “As the Lord lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground.”


And it was told Solomon, “Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon; for lo, he has laid hold of the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me first that he will not slay his servant with the sword.’ ”


So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and did obeisance to King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”


He does not believe that he will return out of darkness, and he is destined for the sword.


Righteousness guards him whose way is upright, but sin overthrows the wicked.


The righteous observes the house of the wicked; the wicked are cast down to ruin.


But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.


But not a hair of your head will perish.


Therefore I urge you to take some food; it will give you strength, since not a hair is to perish from the head of any of you.”


Then the people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great victory in Israel? Far from it! As the Lord lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has wrought with God this day.” So the people ransomed Jonathan, that he did not die.
