My skin turns black and falls from me, and my bones burn with heat.


I have become a stranger to my kindred, an alien to my mother's children.


For even your kinsfolk and your own family, even they have dealt treacherously with you; they are in full cry after you; do not believe them, though they speak friendly words to you.


For the hurt of my poor people I am hurt, I mourn, and dismay has taken hold of me.


Now their visage is blacker than soot; they are not recognized in the streets. Their skin has shriveled on their bones; it has become as dry as wood.


for the son treats the father with contempt, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; your enemies are members of your own household.


and you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.


it is enough for the disciple to be like the teacher, and the slave like the master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household!


And when the sun rose, it was scorched; and since it had no root, it withered away.


There they strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue in the faith, saying, “It is through many persecutions that we must enter the kingdom of God.”


But just as at that time the child who was born according to the flesh persecuted the child who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also.
