He will become a sanctuary, a stone one strikes against; for both houses of Israel he will become a rock one stumbles over—a trap and a snare for the inhabitants of Jerusalem.


And many among them shall stumble; they shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.


And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “Prophets are not without honor except in their own country and in their own house.”


Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, “This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed


And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.”


For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they have not submitted to God's righteousness.


So I ask, have they stumbled so as to fall? By no means! But through their stumbling salvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous.

and “A stone that makes them stumble, and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
