The king of Israel answered, “Tell him: One who puts on armor should not brag like one who takes it off.”


Jehu son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, wrath has gone out against you from the Lord.


You say, ‘See, I have defeated Edom,’ and your heart has lifted you up in boastfulness. Now stay at home; why should you provoke trouble so that you fall, you and Judah with you?”


For the wicked boast of the desires of their heart, those greedy for gain curse and renounce the Lord.


Thus they became unclean by their acts, and prostituted themselves in their doings.


those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?


The boastful will not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers.


Why do you boast, O mighty one, of mischief done against the godly? All day long


Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him, and their doom would last forever.


They pour out their arrogant words; all the evildoers boast.


All worshipers of images are put to shame, those who make their boast in worthless idols; all gods bow down before him.


O Lord our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings.


Whoever plans to do evil will be called a mischief-maker.

For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, despicable, hating one another.


So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great exploits. How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire!


As it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil.


For they speak bombastic nonsense, and with licentious desires of the flesh they entice people who have just escaped from those who live in error.


These are grumblers and malcontents; they indulge their own lusts; they are bombastic in speech, flattering people to their own advantage.
