Psalm 89:32

I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. When he commits iniquity, I will punish him with a rod such as mortals use, with blows inflicted by human beings.


Then the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the royal house in Edom.


He then said to Jeroboam: Take for yourself ten pieces; for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, “See, I am about to tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon, and will give you ten tribes.


For this reason I will punish the descendants of David, but not forever.”


So Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not completely follow the Lord, as his father David had done.


“If you turn aside from following me, you or your children, and do not keep my commandments and my statutes that I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,


We have offended you deeply, failing to keep the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances that you commanded your servant Moses.


If he would take his rod away from me, and not let dread of him terrify me,


But now go, lead the people to the place about which I have spoken to you; see, my angel shall go in front of you. Nevertheless, when the day comes for punishment, I will punish them for their sin.”


You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.
