then he opens their ears, and terrifies them with warnings,


He does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number.


How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!


I try to count them—they are more than the sand; I come to the end —I am still with you.


Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you; your burnt offerings are continually before me.


For you have no delight in sacrifice; if I were to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased.


My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all day long, though their number is past my knowledge.


then his master shall bring him before God. He shall be brought to the door or the doorpost; and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him for life.


What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the Lord; I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of goats.


O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name; for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.


Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who kills a human being; whoever sacrifices a lamb, like one who breaks a dog's neck; whoever presents a grain offering, like one who offers swine's blood; whoever makes a memorial offering of frankincense, like one who blesses an idol. These have chosen their own ways, and in their abominations they take delight;


For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.


Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; and the offerings of well-being of your fatted animals I will not look upon.


But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless.


Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”


And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Surely, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.
