from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the Israelites, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you; for they will surely incline your heart to follow their gods”; Solomon clung to these in love.


Hear, O daughter, consider and incline your ear; forget your people and your father's house,


My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.


Did not one God make her? Both flesh and spirit are his. And what does the one God desire? Godly offspring. So look to yourselves, and do not let anyone be faithless to the wife of his youth.


So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”


Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good;


Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said, “The two shall be one flesh.”


But because of cases of sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.


For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.


“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”


You shall fear the Lord your God; him alone you shall worship; to him you shall hold fast, and by his name you shall swear.
