Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, so that we may preserve offspring through our father.”


So they made their father drink wine that night also; and the younger rose, and lay with him; and he did not know when she lay down or when she rose.


So he went and got them and brought them to his mother; and his mother prepared savory food, such as his father loved.


Let ruin come on them unawares. And let the net that they hid ensnare them; let them fall in it—to their ruin.


Haughty eyes and a proud heart— the lamp of the wicked—are sin.


Do not be among winebibbers, or among gluttonous eaters of meat;


For no one can anticipate the time of disaster. Like fish taken in a cruel net, and like birds caught in a snare, so mortals are snared at a time of calamity, when it suddenly falls upon them.


These also reel with wine and stagger with strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, they are confused with wine, they stagger with strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in giving judgment.

Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;


Remember then what you received and heard; obey it, and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.
