Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the people of the east.


In a little while the heavens grew black with clouds and wind; there was a heavy rain. Ahab rode off and went to Jezreel.


Later the following events took place: Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard in Jezreel, beside the palace of King Ahab of Samaria.


so that Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt.


They made war on the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab;


He had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred donkeys, and very many servants; so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the east.


O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me;


therefore I am handing you over to the people of the east for a possession. They shall set their encampments among you and pitch their tents in your midst; they shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk.


On that day I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.”


The tribe of Joseph said, “The hill country is not enough for us; yet all the Canaanites who live in the plain have chariots of iron, both those in Beth-shean and its villages and those in the Valley of Jezreel.”


Its territory included Jezreel, Chesulloth, Shunem,


the waters flowing from above stood still, rising up in a single heap far off at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, while those flowing toward the sea of the Arabah, the Dead Sea, were wholly cut off. Then the people crossed over opposite Jericho.


For whenever the Israelites put in seed, the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the east would come up against them.


Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the troops that were with him rose early and encamped beside the spring of Harod; and the camp of Midian was north of them, below the hill of Moreh, in the valley.


Then Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, “Come down against the Midianites and seize the waters against them, as far as Beth-barah, and also the Jordan.” So all the men of Ephraim were called out, and they seized the waters as far as Beth-barah, and also the Jordan.


So he took the jars of the troops from their hands, and their trumpets; and he sent all the rest of Israel back to their own tents, but retained the three hundred. The camp of Midian was below him in the valley.
